Michigan Jazz Festival
Gallert and Arroyo speak at the Jazz Talk! Stage. The 30th anniversary of the Michigan Jazz Festival was celebrated on July 20, 2025. Jim Gallert presented “Before Motown” at 1:00 p.m., sharing stories and images of jazz artists in Detroit before the Motown Records era. Rod Arroyo presented “Rhythms of Resilience and Change: Looking Back at Detroit’s Paradise Valley and Black Bottom.” at 3:00 p.m. He shared maps, images, and more related to the history of jazz clubs and Black-owned businesses in Paradise Valley, Black Bottom, and Sugar Hill neighborhoods.
